Sift the cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and flour together. Combine the MILKMAID, butter, water and vanilla essence in a bowl. Stir the dry ingredients into the MILKMAID mixture until just combined.
Pour the mixture into a lined baking tray. Bake in a pre.heated 150Â°C oven for 45 minutes.
Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then remove from tin and cool completely.
To prepare the icing, place butter in a bowl. Add the sifted cocoa powder and icing sugar and sufficient boiling water to mix to a smooth but firm consistency.
Ice the cake once it is cooled.
